Wayside Tutoring offers…

Subject Matter Expertise

I am guided by the MA Curriculum Frameworks when designing and providing instruction, and I have offered my time and expertise on various steering and curriculum committees in math, ELA, science, and social studies.

25 Years of Experience

Having taught hundreds of diverse students over the years, I am well-versed in a variety of instructional approaches and can tailor learning experiences to meet their needs. At the same time, I am always ready and willing to investigate new, research-based methods that work.

Strong Connections with Students

Forming a close relationship with each student lays the foundation for a positive learning experience. I pride myself on knowing students' academic and social/emotional strengths and goals, using this to deepen our bond and bring out the best in each child.

Students come away with…

Greater Subject Mastery

Research has shown that regular tutoring increases students' mastery of subjects, especially when the tutor communicates with students' teachers.

Increased Self-Confidence

Individualized attention and instruction, along with a strong relationship, builds student confidence.

Higher Grades

Not only does tutoring lead to higher grades and test scores, but it can also result in a more positive attitude towards learning in general.

About Wayside Tutoring

What do parents & educators say?

5th Grade Parent

Jeff is an excellent and insightful educator who is patient and resourceful. My daughter not only developed her skills and mastered content, she emerged as a more confident learner and self-advocate. The most telling endorsement is that she looked forward to her twice-weekly summer sessions and always had something she was excited to share with us afterward.

4th Grade Parent

We watched our son become more and more proficient in third grade math as time went on. Homework was no longer a battle, and his classroom teacher remarked on his growth during our spring parent-teacher conference. Mr. Kotkin laid a solid foundation that continued with our son in fourth grade.

3rd Grade Parent

As a result of my son’s regular sessions with Jeff, his confidence increased greatly. He learned skills and strategies that helped reduce anxiety and build resilience. Though my son always ranked Writing as his least favorite subject, he was proud to say that he had lots of new things to write about and even kept a small notebook with him to record his ideas!

Former Principal

Mr. Kotkin’s teaching is characterized by a quest to get students to think deeply about the why’s and how’s of their learning. He frequently asks students to justify their answers, whether correct or incorrect, and encourages students to take positions and give evidence for their positions in a respectful manner…. Mr. Kotkin is a deeply thoughtful, creative, and caring teacher.
